Florence museum directors tell China about the city's heritage with online guided tours

Florentine civic museum directors and art historians live stream the history and collections of their museum venues with China.

Zhong Art International, which has been bridging the cultural gap between Italy and China for many years, will bring the Chinese public to learn about the history and works of the Museums of Florence, thanks to the new project Renaissance - The Museums of Florence narrated by their Directors. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Ningbo Museum in China: the Chinese public will be able to visit Florentine museums via live streaming, guided by the directors of the respective museums or art historians.

The project, which can also be freely accessed online in Italy, involves a series of six streaming sessions lasting about two and a half hours each: museum directors and art historians visit their museum, illustrating its history and collections live; the lecture-conferences are accompanied by images and videos to explore some particular aspects in depth. Special guides conclude the visit remotely by dialoguing with the audience via connection from China. With the assistance of interpreters and subtitles, Chinese viewers can fully understand the proposed content. Monsignor Timothy Verdon and Antonio Natali present the Museo dell’Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, Stefano Casciu and Angelo Tartuferi the Museo di San Marco, Cristina Acidini and Valentina Zucchi Palazzo Medici Riccardi.

It begins on Saturday, September 11, at 9 a.m., live from the Museo di San Marco, with Stefano Casciu giving the lecture-conference entitled A journey through the museums of Florence in the name of the Medici, telling the Chinese public about the Museo di San Marco and some of the Medici Villas.

It continues on Saturday, September 25, again at 9 a.m. and live from the San Marco Museum, where Angelo Tartuferi will talk about The San Marco Museum in Florence, between past and future. This will be followed by two meetings on the Museum of Palazzo Medici Riccardi on Saturday, October 30 at 9 a.m. with Valentina Zucchi and Saturday, November 6, also at 9 a.m. with Cristina Acidini.

Also on Monday, September 27, at the Cinema Teatro La Compagnia, from 5 to 8 p.m., there will be a special event with the screening of videos made as part of the monumental complex of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, at the Museum of San Marco and in the Medici Villas north of Florence, La Petraia and di Castello, which will be attended by the Councillor for Culture of the City of Florence Tommaso Sacchi, Chinese Consul General Wang Wengang, Monsignor Timothy Verdon, Antonio Natali, Stefano Casciu and Angelo Tartuferi. Free admission by reservation through La Compagnia Cinema’s platform.

The entire project aims to stimulate interest in the city and attract an audience of potential visitors, tour operators, journalists and bloggers from China, in addition to those who are knowledgeable about the subject. The project is carried out in cooperation with the Department of International Relations of the City of Ningbo, the Ningbo Museum of Art, the Pan Tianshou School of Architecture, Art and Design of Ningbo University, and the Department of International Communication of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nottingham Ningbo University.
Also born out of the consideration that Florence and Ningbo entered into a Friendship Pact in 2008, the initiative is held under the patronage of both cities. All sessions will be broadcast by Artron(https://m.artron.net), China’s largest platform dedicated to art.
