The Board of Directors of the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums appoints Gloria Bartoli to lead the general secretariat to strengthen the operational strategy and support the dissemination of contemporary art in Italy and around the world.

The Board of Directors of AMACI, theAssociation of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, has announced the appointment of Dr. Gloria Bartoli as its new Secretary General for the three-year period 2025-2028. The decision comes at a significant time for the organization, which continues to consolidate its role as a reference point in the promotion of contemporary art on the national territory and in building institutional and cultural relations with international partners. The decision to entrust this position to Bartoli reflects the association’s desire to strengthen its operational structure, orienting it toward an increasingly defined strategic vision capable of responding to the needs of the sector.

Bartoli brings with him a professional background built within leading cultural institutions and matured through roles related to communication, public relations, fundraising and planning in the field of contemporary art. Currently Head of Communication and External Relations at the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin, she has developed skills that embrace both the internal coordination of museum structures and the definition of strategies aimed at the public and the different actors involved in cultural promotion. His profile was considered particularly suitable by AMACI to face the challenges that will characterize the coming years, in a context that requires organizational skills, international vision and constant dialogue with institutions.

Over the course of her career, Bartoli has held central functions in various realities of Italian contemporary art. Her experience as deputy artistic director of Arte Fiera in Bologna is considered one of the most significant steps in her career, as it allowed her to contribute directly to the evolution of the event’s curatorial format and its communication strategy. Bartoli previously worked with the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art, where she was in charge of fundraising and external relations. Her background is also rooted in professional training built within Artissima in Turin, an international contemporary art fair, where she held the position of VIP manager. Bartoli holds degrees in Theoretical Philosophy from the University of Turin and in Management and Innovation of Cultural and Artistic Organizations from the University of Bologna.

The appointment comes at a time when AMACI plans to further consolidate its internal structure. Founded in 2003, the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums now brings together 26 of the country’s leading museums, with the aim of supporting the dissemination of contemporary art, promoting study and research activities and strengthening institutional dialogue on the issue of cultural policies related to contemporaneity. Over the years AMACI has developed national and international projects that have contributed to the emergence of the centrality of contemporary artistic production within the Italian cultural scene, creating networks and stable collaborations between museums, professionals and institutions.

President Lorenzo Balbi, together with the directors of member museums, wished the new Secretary General all the best in her work. The new Secretary General succeeds Greta Gelmini, who has held this role since 2019, and before that Cristian Valsecchi, Secretary General from the founding of the association until 2019.
