From April 28, 2026, the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art in Piacenza will inaugurate a new phase in its history, presenting itself to visitors with a renewed face following a significant redevelopment and refurbishment. The project, signed by the Milan-based firm Lissoni & Partners and launched in spring 2025, involved more than 1,000 square meters of gallery space and all twenty-two exhibition rooms. During the months of construction, the spaces still remained accessible to the public, albeit with alternating openings as the work progressed.
The implementation of the intervention was made possible thanks to the support of nineteen supporters including businesses, trade associations and citizens of the Piacenza area. Crucial was the contribution of President Massimo Toscani, who promoted and led the fundraising effort. The work was conducted under the supervision of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Parma and Piacenza.
From the design point of view, the redevelopment of the interiors benefited from the collaboration of the Lissoni & Partners firm, which worked in full respect of the sober and elegant architecture conceived by Giulio Ulisse Arata, author of the building inaugurated in 1931 and which had not been the subject of such a major maintenance intervention for more than 20 years. Construction management and executive design were entrusted to Studio Milani Carini of Piacenza, while the Gallery’s director, Lucia Pini, coordinated the various phases of the museum intervention and oversaw the organization of the new exhibition itinerary. The graphic identity, on the other hand, was created by Ma:design.
The entire project intends to recover and enhance the original architectural and structural features of the exhibition spaces, designed to dialogue with Giuseppe Ricci Oddi’s collection. It was the collector himself, in 1931, who transformed his private collection into a museum open to the public, also actively participating in the design of the building intended to house it.
“I believe that one of the added values of the ongoing renovation,” said Massimo Toscani, president of the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art Foundation-ETS, “is the extraordinary response of that part of the Piacenza community-private citizens, companies, local realities-that has secured the funds essential to the work itself. This generous involvement means that the Gallery is also perceived as an asset of its own and of the community, for whose well-being it is necessary to work. Such a sense of belonging is a truly valuable asset for the institution and is the sign of a trust that, also for the future, must be carefully preserved and cultivated since the institution’s growth will depend on it.”
“It is indeed a great joy to see the Ricci Oddi,” emphasizes Lucia Pini, Director of the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art, “recovering its beauty, elegance and functionality thanks to the important works that are being carried out. During these challenging months the Gallery has never closed to the public; this choice has required great patience and availability from the staff, the workers, all the professionals involved and the visitors themselves, which have never failed. The end result will be a Gallery able to welcome its collection and its public in environments that communicate care, attention and beauty.”
