Turin, the Polo del '900 dedicates a new format to five revolutionary women of the 20th century

9 Hundred Stories | Women Changing the World is the new format, between digital and real, of the Polo del '900 in Turin. It stars five revolutionary women of the 20th century.

Turin ’s Polo del ’900 launches a new in-depth format, between digital and real, dedicated to five revolutionary women.

9 hundred Stories | Women Changing the World, this is the chosen title, recounts Rosa Luxemburg, Hannah Arendt, Elsa Morante, Adriana Zarri and Rita Levi Montalcini. "The five figures that will be recounted, even from the most intimate and least known side, in a parallelism with today, are five women who revolutionized politics, science, theology, literature, and philosophy. The idea behind 9 Hundred Stories is to retrace the Short Century from the perspective of turning points, when history takes a step forward, through ideas, cultures, values, people," said Pietro Polito, director of the Piero Gobetti Study Center.

The project, curated by the Piero Gobetti Studies Center with the Gaetano Salvemini Institute for Historical Studies, the Vera Nocentini Foundation, the Donat-Cattin Foundation and the Franco Antonicelli Cultural Union, kicked off Oct. 2 and will run for five weeks, until Dec. 17. For each protagonist, a video and podcast (on the Pole’s social channels) anticipate an in-depth evening lecture with experts and guests comparing notes. The first lecture, held on October 8, was dedicated to Rosa Luxemburg (Zamosc 1871 - Berlin 1919). The appointments continue with Rita Levi Montalcini(Turin 1909 - Rome 2012) “the little lady with an indomitable will and the bearing of a princess” as Primo Levi described her (Oct. 21); Adriana Zarri (San Lazzaro di Savena 1919 - Strambino 2020), the theologian, thinker and visionary (Nov. 5); Elsa Morante(Rome 1912 - Rome 1985), “the writer” (Dec. 3); and Hannah Arendt(Hannover 1906 - New York 1975), between politics and philosophy (Dec. 17).

“Thanks to the expertise of the Partner Entities and the contamination with digital, the Pole proposes a hybrid format of great quality to be followed in Via del Carmine, 14 or on the social channels of the Pole. We are thus addressing a wider audience to disseminate new keys related to the lives of these women and continue to draw inspiration from them for current events, addressing certain issues such as participation, labor, rights, critical thinking,” commented Alessandro Bollo, director of the Polo del ’900.

Events will be held at the Polo del ’900 by reservation at www.polodel900.it and live streaming on the Facebook page @ilpolodel900.
