Virtual tour among Raphael's masterpieces at the Uffizi Galleries

The Uffizi Galleries present a three-stage virtual tour of Raphael's masterpieces on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death.

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death on April 6, 1520, the Uffizi Galleries are launching a three-stage virtual tour to discover the masterpieces housed in the halls of the Florentine museum venue.

Starting Monday, April 6, the Uffizi will publish on their Facebook social channel a triptych of videos dedicated to the Urbino artist and his works on display in the Statues and Paintings Gallery and the Palatine Gallery in the Pitti Palace. One video per day for three consecutive days.

The initiative will kick off with a presentation by Cristian Spadoni, from the Department of Digital Strategies, of the painting The Death of Raphael created by Rodolfo Morgari in 1880 and housed in the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Pitti.
In the second video, the director of the Galleries, Eike Schmidt, will illustrate the Madonna della Seggiola, a masterpiece by Raphael kept in the Palatina Gallery of Palazzo Pitti.
Finally, the tour will conclude in the Uffizi room dedicated to Raphael and Michelangelo: Anna Bisceglia, curator of 16th-century painting, will focus in particular on the famous Madonna of the Goldfinch.

The triptych of videos will be complemented by daily insights related to Raphael and his paintings that will be posted on the Uffizi Galleries’ Instagram and Twitter social channels.

The director himself commented, "At the Galleries we have as many as two rooms dedicated to Urbino’s masterpieces: one is in the Uffizi, the other is the Saturn room in the Palatine Gallery of Palazzo Pitti, where his works are also found in other rooms. Practically, here in Florence we are privileged to hold the world’s highest concentration of Raphael’s paintings. To make them known to everyone, on the five-hundredth anniversary of the death of the painter - rightly called ’divine’ even by his contemporaries - we have organized a virtual journey through our museums: our hope is that it will be not only an occasion for entertainment, but also an opportunity to reflect on the glories and immense resources of our country."
