Court of Auditors investigates: 8.5 million in fiscal damages on Campania Museums

According to investigations, 8.5 million euros of fiscal damage was allegedly found on Campania Museums. Electa Mondadori and Civita are being investigated.

Treasury damages of 8.5 million euros were allegedly found through investigations lasting nearly two years conducted by Francesco Vitiello, deputy public prosecutor, and coordinated by Campania’s attorney general, Michele Oricchio.

The Court of Auditors has served invitations to deduct addressed to Nicola Spinosa, former superintendent of the Naples Museum Pole, Guido Savarese, CEO of Electa Napoli, Antonio Stefano Porro, chairman of the board of directors of Electa Mondadori, and Gianni Letta, president of Civita: they will have 45 days to submit their counterclaims.

According to the investigation, accounts would not add up for the period between 2001 and 2008 regarding the management of ticket offices by private companies to which some museum services, in this case the Capodimonte Museum and other museums in Campania, are given in concession.

According to the agreements, the private firms were to invest just over a million euros a year in exhibitions and events; however, it turns out that the firms failed to document the actual implementation of the agreements, and furthermore, the Guardia di Finanza found that the organization of the events had “been lavishly financed by public contributions, despite the fact that the exactly quantified burden was all borne by the temporary association of firms.”
“The concessionaire’s failure to invest in the promotion and planning of events, which results in lost revenue for the museum center, constitutes prejudice to the state and especially to the detriment of the Mibact.”
