European heritage label to ten new sites. There is also ancient Ostia

The European Commission has awarded the European Heritage Label to ten new sites in Europe. Among them is the archaeological area of ancient Ostia.

Ten European Unionsites have been awarded the European Heritage Label by the European Commission: an important recognition given to sites that celebrate and symbolize European ideals, values, history and integration.

The European Heritage Label is not to be confused with the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as European heritage sites create a European narrative discourse, promote their European dimension and ensure their accessibility, and, finally, can be visited individually or as part of a circuit while experiencing what Europe has to offer.

The ten new sites awarded the European Heritage Label today are: Ostia Antica archaeological area (Italy), the submarine cultural heritage of the Azores (Portugal), the intangible heritage of St. Andrew (Hungary), the Koloniën van Weldadigheid (Belgium and the Netherlands), Kynzvart Castle - site of diplomatic meetings, Lázne Kynzvart (Czech Republic), the “Zdravljica,” or message of the Springtime of European Nations, Ljubljana (Slovenia), the Lambinowice memorial site (Poland), the Werkbund Estates in Europe (Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria), the Chambon-sur-Lignon memorial site (France), and the "Three Brothers," Riga (Latvia).

Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, said, “My warmest congratulations to the ten new sites that have been awarded the European Heritage Label. They offer great opportunities for all European citizens to get closer to cultural heritage and to strengthen their sense of belonging to the European Union.”

The sites were chosen by a jury of independent experts from across Europe from candidates pre-selected by participating member states. With the ten new sites, the total number of sites holding the label now reaches 48.
