Extraordinary discovery in Thebes: tomb found with mummies still preserved

A tomb was discovered in the el-Asasif necropolis in Thebes that contained inside two sarcophagi with still perfectly preserved mummies.

Presenting it to the press were Minister of Antiquities Khaled el- Enany and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziry.

The tomb dates to theRamesside period, between about 1290 and 1080 B.C., and owners were a scribe and a singer; these appear depicted in the paintings decorating the tomb’s walls.
The rediscovered mummies would have been of Amun’s grand sachedi-iset Pa-di-iset and his daughter Nes-mut-ankh, Singer of Amun.
The extraordinary sarcophagi on a black background with gold trim would date to the period between 745 and 525 BCE, according to the minister’s opinion.
Also unearthed were terracotta, wooden and alabaster objects, a papyrus and funerary masks. Also identified was the main entrance to the tomb known as TT28 of the Theban Necropolis.
