After five editions, Fabrizio Moretti is stepping down from his position as Secretary General of BIAF, Florence’s Biennale Internazionale dell’Antiquariato, a role he held since 2014. Taking his place will be Bruno Botticelli, renowned second-generation Florentine antiques dealer and current president of the Associazione Antiquari d’Italia. His appointment was proposed and supported by Moretti himself and unanimously accepted by the Steering Committee.

The Steering Committee would like to thank Fabrizio Moretti for having succeeded, with his innovative ideas, in positioning BIAF among the most important and internationally accredited Exhibitions and for having made the show an event to which the market looks with great interest.

“After long reflections, I have decided to step down as Secretary General of the Biennale,” said Fabrizio Moretti. “It has been an extraordinary experience: working for the oldest and most beautiful exhibition in the world has filled me with joy and satisfaction, and, certainly, grown as a person. I fully dedicated myself to this project, always trying to give my best, putting everything in my possession at the disposal of the Biennale, with the utmost honesty. Without the help of the very talented Giuseppe Vito, whom I sincerely thank, all the staff, the sponsors-including the fundamental contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and the Chamber of Commerce of Florence-nothing would have been possible in these years.”

“The biggest thanks for these five editions together,” Moretti continues, "goes to the colleagues/exhibitors who have trusted me to support the exhibition and make it so extraordinary. Special thanks are due to the City of Florence, the figure of former Mayor Dario Nardella, and current Mayor Sara Funaro for always supporting me and investing in my ideas. I believe that the positions of public institutions (like the Biennale) should change every number of years, and my turn, after five editions, is over.

It is right and democratic, that there should be a new Secretary General who can carry on the prestigious project of the Biennale, improving it more and more, and for this my most sincere wish goes to my friend Bruno Botticelli, who, from today, deservedly, takes my place, and I am sure he will be able to do better than me. People pass away, the Florence Biennale of Antiques remains and will remain."

“Receiving the position of Secretary General of the Biennale is a thrill and an honor,” said Bruno Botticelli. “I want to thank the Committee that appointed me but especially Fabrizio Moretti, an extraordinary Secretary General, a philanthropist, a lifelong friend who strongly wanted me to accept this prestigious position.”
