Florence: Bronzino's Immaculate Conception relocated to its site

After restoration and display at the Cinquecento exhibition in Florence, Bronzino's Immaculate Conception returns to the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Peace.

After the restoration completed thanks to Friends of Florence and after being exhibited at the"Cinquecento a Firenze" exhibition held at Palazzo Strozzi until last January, the painting depicting theImmaculate Conception created by Bronzino has returned to its home in the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Peace in Florence.

Friends of Florence president Simonetta Brandolini d’Adda is proud of the restoration work completed: the work “has regained its beauty and the brightness of its colors under the blanket of varnish and dust that had mortified it for years.”

During the intervention, restorers also discovered that much of the sky and faces of the saints had been repainted to hide the abraded state of the originals.
