Tiziana Maffei and Alessandra Guerrini are the new directors of Reggia di Caserta and Palazzo Reale in Genoa. The appointment announced today by the Ministry.

The Ministry of Cultural Heritage today announced the names of the new directors of the Reggia di Caserta and the Palazzo Reale in Genoa: they are Tiziana Maffei and Alessandra Guerrini, respectively, who won the competitions announced by MiBAC for the two museums and received their appointments from Minister Alberto Bonisoli.

Tiziana Maffei, who will go on to direct the Reggia Caserta, an architect, has been president of ICOM Italy since 2016 (for the three-year period 2016-2019) and has extensive management experience in cultural heritage, particularly in the field of museology and museography. He also teaches Cultural Heritage Communication at several universities and is head of the Laboratory for the Enhancement of Protected Heritage at the University of Bologna. “In recent years,” reads her profile on the website of the University of Bologna, “her professional and research activity has been directed toward addressing the themes of the museum as a place of active presidium of protection, the relationship between local identities and the construction of cultural landscapes, territorial museography, the sustainable preservation of cultural heritage, the culture of safety, and museum security and emergency plans.”

Alessandra Guerrini will go to the Royal Palace of Genoa and is an art historian, currently serving at the Museum Pole of Piedmont (she joined the ranks of the Ministry in 1988) where she has gained extensive experience, including directing important museums. She is an expert on fourteenth-century painting, and among her experiences she boasts the direction of Palazzo Carignano in Turin from 1998 to 2010, while from 2006 to 2014 she directed theRoyal Armory of Turin (now part of the Royal Museums of Turin), and from 2015 to the present she has directed the monumental complex of the Ducal Castle of Agliè.

Maffei and Guerrini replace, respectively, Mauro Felicori, who left the direction of the Reggia due to age restrictions, and Serena Bertolucci, who went to direct Palazzo Ducale in Genoa.
