Hypotheses on the fire at the Sacra di San Michele

Firefighters have advanced hypotheses for the fire that broke out Jan. 24 at the Sacra di San Michele.

On the evening of January 24, 2018, a fire suddenly broke out at the Sacra di San Michele, a Romanesque-Gothic abbey located in Piedmont, in the municipality of Sant’Ambrogio di Torino.

The fire had developed on the roof of the guest quarters: after extinguishing the flames, firefighters deduced in the following days that a possible cause may have been a tar dripping spread on the roof through the fire of a torch.
The doubt arose as a result of the coincidence of the fire occurring precisely during the period of maintenance work on the roof.

To better understand whether this hypothesis could be real, Assistant Prosecutor Vincenzo Pacileo has ordered a consultation with an engineer these days.
