Learning archaeology and English through play. In Paestum workshops for children

Every fourth Sunday of the month, from June to October, the Paestum Archaeological Park offers archaeological workshops for children in English.

Every fourth Sunday of the month, from June to October, the Paestum Archaeological Park offers archaeological workshops for children in English in collaboration with teachers from British School International based in Battipaglia and Salerno.
The young participants will learn in this way by playing both the history andarchaeology of Paestum, as well asEnglish.

“The collaboration between the British School International Institute and the Paestum Archaeological Park was born with the aim of understanding the English language as a cultural vehicle that, through a multidisciplinary approach, does not neglect the educational value of the subject,” say the two directors of the British School International, Veronica Bisogno and Guido Mastroianni.

“The long history of Poseidonia-Paestum is also made up of relations with foreign languages. With the arrival of the first settlers, Greek was spoken in the city, later replaced by Latin after the conquest by the Romans. In the museum and the repositories, there are numerous records of texts in these ancient languages that have helped generations of archaeologists shed light on otherwise unknown aspects of Paestum’s history. With the English-language workshops, we want to give local children, but not only them, the same utility that ancient texts give to scholars, namely a tool for dealing with the contemporary world, building relational networks with the entire world,” added Park Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel.

Each month, the workshop will have a different theme:

June 23: Mosaic Fun Lab

July 28: Pottery Story Lab

Aug. 24: Art and Crafts

Sept. 28: Jurassic Lab

Oct. 27: Be an artist for a day

English Kids Lab, free workshops for children ages 3 to 10, will be held at 11:30 a.m.

Workshop participation is for a maximum of 20 people, for info and reservations call 3409582598 or email info@britishbattipaglia.it
