Mantua's Festivaletteratura mourns one of its founders, Luca Nicolini

Luca Nicolini, one of the founders of Mantua’s Festivaletteratura, has passed away at the age of 66 from a serious illness.

A bookseller by profession, together with his wife and six other private citizens of different professions, he gave birth in 1997 to the Organizing Committee of the event, aimed at taking care of the program from its first edition and defining the profomotion of its organization.

His Nautilus bookstore had been his passion for many years, which he shared with his wife: he had left the bookstore last year, now joining the Coop bookstore. However, he continued his adventure at Festivaletteratura and was working on the next edition.

He thus dedicated his life to books and culture.

He is mourned by the entire city of Mantua and the entire staff of Festivaletteratura, who in a post on the event’s official Facebook page write, “Luca is gone. He was the president of the Festival’s organizing committee, but for all of us - an enlarged us - he was also much more.”

MiBACT Minister Dario Franceschini also remembers him: “A visionary and at the same time factual man, in love with books and reading, capable of creating with his enthusiasm a pioneering festival that has become in more than 20 years a true excellence, thanks to the perseverance and ability that were his own and of all those who collaborated with him. The passing of Luca Nicolini hits Mantua and the whole of Italy hard.”
