A specific Observatory is also established at the Directorate General for Museums with the aim of analyzing the reality of small museums and presenting proposals to increase their attractiveness and integration in the cultural development of the territory, as well as to promote the network of small museums, favoring synergy with local authorities and the various entities operating in the territory.“ ”In fact, we want to enhance those museums that clearly and proactively express the cultural identity of a territory,“ he concludes, ”giving them the dignity they deserve and, above all, indicating a path and providing the tools to reach the standards defined by the Italian museum system. The goal is to increasingly reduce the gap between the center and the periphery, between urban and marginal areas, between those who operate in social contexts that facilitate the work of museums and those who instead operate in socially and economically fragile territories. This objective is all the more important in the extremely difficult phase we are living through, with the crisis due to the pandemic that is hitting the culture sector with force, producing even more dramatic effects precisely on the smallest and most fragile realities."
