Milan has named a square after Tina Modotti, among the most famous photographers and activists of the early 20th century. The square is located in the Rogoredo/Santa Giulia area (access from Via Pizzolpasso corner of Via Russolo) and the dedication ceremony took place a few days ago, on September 22, in the presence of representatives of the city administration.

After the first public statue dedicated to a woman, Risorgimento heroine Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso, whose unveiling took place on September 15, the municipal administration continued its intent to enhance the contribution of women to artistic, political and social history by naming a square after Tina Modotti, born Assunta Saltarini-Modotti (Udine,1896 - Mexico City, 1942).

An exhibition dedicated to her, entitled Tina Modotti. Women, Mexico and Freedom, which aims to tell her personal story, as an emancipated and modern woman, and her photographic activity, as well as her strong social commitment.

Promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Culture and produced by 24 Ore Cultura - Gruppo 24 Ore, the retrospective is produced in collaboration with Sudest57 and the Tina Modotti Committee of Udine: on display are some 100 photographs, original prints, letters, documents and videos.
