Milan, state of agitation for 200 civic museum and library workers

In Milan, 200 civic museum and library workers are proclaiming a state of agitation. The problem, Filcams-Cgil denounces, is bargaining for the next tender for the reception contract.

200 men and women workers in thereception contract of Milan’s civic museums and libraries are entering a state of ag itation. Announcing the state of agitation is Filcams-Cgil after an assembly.

The reasons, the union reports, are the “failure of the City of Milan to open a confrontation, after several reminders, for a preventive bargaining that provides guarantees and protections in the next tender. Preventive bargaining provided for, among other things, by the Protocol for the quality and protection of labor in contracts signed by the City and CGIL,CISL AND UIL. What the men and women workers consider fundamental is that within the tender there is a guarantee that, following a change of contract, no worker will be left at home regardless of the type of individual contract and that the actual CCNL for the sector will be applied to them.”

Filcams-Cgil explains that in 2018, following the change of contract, companies and the principal in order to save money had chosen to apply a “cheaper” CCNL without considering the actual tasks performed by the workers. Today, a full-time worker has a net salary of only about 750 euros per month, despite working inside Milan’s cultural venues with the resulting professionalism required to be able to perform certain tasks. “We keep hearing,” Filcams-Cgil concludes, “that culture is central to the restart of this country, but we wonder how this is possible without recognition of the rights and protections of those who work passionately in the cultural sector. We hope that the municipality will activate a real confrontation as soon as possible and incorporate our demands, otherwise we will field mobilization initiatives.”
