New MIAC - Italian Audiovisual and Cinema Museum opens to the public

On December 18, 2019, the new MIAC - Italian Audiovisual and Cinema Museum - opened to the public in the Cinecittà studios.

It had been announced in October this year: on December 18, 2019, the new MIAC - Italian Audiovisual and Cinema Museum in Cinecittà Studios opened to the public. It is the first multimedia, interactive and immersive museum entirely dedicated to cinema in the Capital. The museum was commissioned and financed by MiBACT, realized by Istituto Luce-Cinecittà, in partnership with Rai Teche and CSC - Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, in collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna, AAMOD - Audiovisual Archive of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement, National Museum of Cinema in Turin, Fondazione Cineteca Italiana, Cineteca del Friuli, Mediaset, with the patronage of SIAE.

The MIAC covers an area of 1,650 square meters, where the Development and Print Lab used to be, with twelve main rooms divided into thematic areas.

Hundreds of films and archival footage (from the funds of the Istituto Luce and Teche Rai, and from partner archives), documents, photographs, interviews, theme songs, backstage, graphics, radio. A material and immaterial heritage that tells 120 years; all made immersive and emotional thanks to interactive installations, video art, transmedia languages.

The new Museo Italiano dell’Audiovisivo e del Cinema is curated by Gianni Canova, film historian and university lecturer; Gabriele D’Autilia, photography historian and university lecturer in visual studies; Enrico Menduni, mass media historian and university lecturer; and Roland Sejko, director. The installation is conceived, designed and curated by NONE collective. The building project is by Francesco Karrer.
