Pompeii: discovery on the embrace of the Cryptoporticus house.

CT scans and DNA revealed that casts discovered in the Cryptoporticus house in Pompeii by archaeologist Spinazzola would belong to two men.

“Pompeii never ceases to amaze. It was always imagined that it was an embrace between women. But CT and DNA revealed that it was actually two men,” so said Pompeii Archaeological Heritage Superintendent General Massimo Osanna during a conference, referring to the cast of two embraced bodies found in the Cryptoporticus house in Pompeii by archaeologist Vittorio Spinazzola in the early 1900s. From their position it is possible that they were lovers, but there is no certainty.

The casts were restored in 2015 and displayed in Pompeii’s Amphitheater during the"Kidnapped to Death" exhibition that ended in January 2016.
