Yesterday morning, March 28, a meeting was held in Rome between the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Dario Franceschini and the mayor of Riomaggiore Fabrizia Pecunia to enter into an agreement between the municipality and MiBACT regarding the use of the 7 million euros funded by CIPE to reopen the Via dell’Amore.
Declared to be of cultural interest in 2015, the Via dell’Amore is one of the most significant tourist attractions in the Cinque Terre area, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site: it is a path overlooking the sea that connects the Ligurian villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola through a route of just over a kilometer.
In 2012, the Via dell’Amore was closed to visitors after a rockfall caused injuries to a group of tourists.
Mayor of Riomaggiore Fabrizia Pecunia said, “A very positive meeting, a step forward to get to the point of defining how and when to use CIPE funds. Too much time has been lost so far, now all the institutions involved should team up and work in harmony to arrive at identifying a real timetable that will allow the Via dell’Amore to be reopened as soon as possible. Thanks to the government for the commitment, not only economic, that it is putting on this important national strategic project.”
