Two Roman sarcophagi, probably child burials, were discovered at a construction site during a preventive archaeology excavation.

During a preventive archaeological excavation at a construction site near Rome ’s Olympic Stadium, two marble Roman sarcophagi were discovered, one of which has bas-reliefs.

According to the Special Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Rome, the two sarcophagi would date back to the third to fourth century AD, although the dating can only be confirmed after thorough examination.
They would probably be burials of children.
The results of the research will be announced next fall.
