Canova, Hayez and Cicognara characters in Mickey Mouse, comes a story inspired by the exhibition at the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice

Canova, Hayez and Cicognara become the protagonists of a Mickey Mouse story inspired by the current exhibition at the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice: it will be released Feb. 28.

A story inspired by the exhibition Canova, Hayez, Cicognara. The Last Glory of Venice, running until April 2, 2018 at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice ( you can read our review at this link). The story is titled Mickey Mouse and the Gift of the Accademia (texts by Alessandro Sisti and drawings by Giorgio Cavazzano), and sees the three famous characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie and Goofy take on nineteenth-century guise and become witnesses to the birth of the Gallerie dell’Accademia, which arose thanks to the friendship and collaboration of Count Leopoldo Cicognara, sculptor Antonio Canova and painter Francesco Hayez. The three historical figures will appear in the Mickey Mouse plates.

This is not the first time that the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice and Mickey Mouse have collaborated: it had already happened in 2016 on the occasion of the exhibition Aldo Manuzio. The Renaissance of Venice, when a comic strip story titled Uncle Scrooge and the Secret Books of Paperus Picuzio and set during the Venetian Renaissance came out in Mickey Mouse in April 2016.

The museum has also initiated a program of side events, some of them featuring Disney authors: in particular, on Saturday, March 3, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., there will be a meeting with Giorgio Cavazzano, intended for children and also open to parents, and it will be followed on Sunday, March 4, by another meeting with a historical Mickey Mouse cartoonist, Valerio Held, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (admission is free, but since there is a maximum of 25 participants per group it is advisable to make reservations at 349 3905119: reservations available Friday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.). There will also be talks on the history of Venice and the Galleries. On Thursday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m., conservator Giulio Manieri will hold a meeting entitled La Sala del Capitolo: virtual reconstruction project, combined with a special tour of the exhibition. On Wednesday, March 14, a meeting with the three curators, Paola Marini, Fernando Mazzocca and Roberto De Feo, who will present the exhibition (at 5:30 p.m.), will be held at the Archiginnasio Library in Bologna. Again the Gallerie dell’Accademia will be the venue, Thursday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m., for the meeting L’ultima notte di Antonio Canova, with writer Gabriele Dadati and exhibition curator Roberto De Feo (special visit will follow). Last meeting on Thursday, March 22, at 5:30 p.m., with Roberto De Feo, who will give a lecture entitled Giuseppe Borsato: a protagonist of Venetian neoclassicism, followed by a visit to the exhibition.
