Genoa, October's Rolli Days arrives with important new and never-before-opened palaces. Here are what they are

Genoa, Oct. 13 and 14 new edition of Rolli Days with many new features, and openings of palaces never opened to the public before. Here are what they are.

The customary October edition of Rolli Days is coming to Genoa (as every year, the event that opens wide the doors of the Palazzi dei Rolli as well as other stately palaces in the Ligurian capital is held twice, in spring and in autumn): the appointment is on October 13 and 14, 2018 on the streets of the historic center. As in every edition, this time the public will have the exceptional opportunity to admire Genoa’s most beautiful palaces: from the Strada Nuova Museums to Palazzo Tobia Pallavicino, from Palazzo Balbi Senarega to Palazzo Reale, doors will be open to citizens and noncitizens alike to reveal the secrets of five hundred years of Genoese history. And as always, accompanying visitors will be professional science popularizers and students from the University of Genoa, appropriately trained (as well as paid), who provide their expertise to illustrate the art, history and culture of Genoa. And as usual, there is the possibility of booking thematic guided tours with licensed guides, which can be purchased online at the visitgenoa.it portal.

There are also some important new features planned for the October 2018 edition. For the first time, Villa di Negro-Rosazza, a singular example of stratification of exceptional architectural, sculptural and pictorial value, featuring major Genoese artists from the 16th to the 18th century and which was the suburban home of the wealthy Ambrogio Di Negro, will open to the public for the first time. The city palace will be open to visitors, as it has been for several editions of Rolli Days to date, at Via San Luca 2 on the same days. Another absolute novelty is the opening, for the first time, of Palazzo Franzone Spinola, which, in addition to its impressive and significant architectural presence, features 18th-century frescoes by Domenico Parodi, until now never open to the public. And again, among the novelties is the reopening of Villa Pallavicino delle Peschiere, a mansion beloved by Dickens and decorated by Luca Cambiaso and Bergamasco, the “stars” of 16th-century painting in Liguria: Cambiaso needs little introduction, while Bergamasco’s is enough to think of the decorative apparatuses of Tobia Pallavicino’s palace, at number 4 Via Garibaldi (the Villa Pallavicino delle Peschiere was also his, and was used as a pleasure residence).

This edition of Rolli Days is also held during a month dedicated to the genius of Niccolò Paganini: in fact, the Paganini Festival will be underway, and a few days later the Paganini Rockstar exhibition will open (on October 19, to be precise) at the Ducal Palace. The full program is also available on the visitgenoa.it portal, where all information on offers, events and hospitality can also be found.

Rolli Days Genova 2018 is an event promoted and sponsored by the Municipality of Genoa, Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura, Genoa Chamber of Commerce, Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism - Regional Secretariat of Liguria, Rolli Association of the Genoese Republic, in collaboration with the University of Genoa (School of Humanities, Polytechnic School - Department of Sciences for Architecture) and the Cultural Heritage Office of the Archdiocese of Genoa.
