A masterpiece by Boldini in Luino for the holiday season

On the occasion of the holiday season, Giovanni Boldini's Portrait of Lady Nanne Schrader will be on display in Luino.

From Dec. 14, 2019 to Jan. 15, 2020, Palazzo Verbania in Luino will host a masterpiece by Giovanni Boldini, among the most celebrated artists of the 19th century: it is the Portrait of Lady Nanne Schrader, née Wiborg.

The work, created in 1903, will be exhibited for the holiday season in an arrangement curated by Federico Crimi.

Palazzo Verbania possesses traces of Viennese-inspired Art Nouveau and is therefore in tune with the iconic portrait of beauty, charm and style that Boldini, the great Belle Époque portraitist, created.

Lady Nanne Wiborg belonged to London high society: the artist captures this fashionable female figure of the turn of the century with her bouche en coeur, her modern, photographic and, at the same time, dreamlike beauty.

“In the wake of the Milanese model that has seen for years now the traditional Christmas exhibition reserved for a single extraodinary work offered to the city, Luino too chooses a painting of excellent quality, whose history intertwines with that of the Palazzo Verbania returned to the community after a long restoration work,” commented Luino Mayor Andrea Pellicini.
