Break the window and steal the fragments: Cosimo Veneziano's solo exhibition in Rome

From Jan. 29 to Feb. 10, 2018 in Rome, at AlbumArte, Cosimo Veneziano's solo exhibition entitled 'Break the Window and Steal the Fragments!' is being held.

The first solo exhibition in Rome by Cosimo Veneziano (Moncalieri, 1983), titled Rompi la finestra e ruba i frammenti! (Break the window and steal the fragments! ) and set up at the AlbumArte gallery, is on view in Rome from January 29 to February 10, 2018. The title of the exhibition, devised by curator Benedetta Carpi De Resmini, as she explains, “draws inspiration from a work by Lithuanian sculptor Mindaugas Navakas, wants to pose as a playful reflection on what the history of sculpture/monument, associated with the work of Cosimo Veneziano, represents today.” The exhibition is a new stage in Cosimo Veneziano’s research on monuments and the fate of the public work outside its temporal or political context. Topics such as the survival of documents to political regimes, preservation, witnessing past events, the public role of the monument, and the change of meaning depending on the changing political situation will be some of the themes the exhibition will want the public to think about.

The monument survives the changes of history, according to Cosimo Veneziano, in the personal sphere. “It is here,” reads the curator’s text, “ that Veneziano investigates and it is in these folds that the artist formulates different hypotheses. It is not a recycling of the material, but a reinterpretation of the surviving material that provokes Cosimo Veneziano’s reflection, precisely at the moment when from public becomes private, and it becomes so because the artist begins here to consider the involvement of other, smaller, but evidently for him, no longer trivial stories. He breaks down and shatters the idea of the public work and brings it back among us, with what remains and giving it another life, because its life is inherent in interpretation.”

Cosimo Veneziano lives and works in Leeds, UK. He has exhibited in various international contexts: in Switzerland, Colombia, Albania, the UK, and Brazil. His works have been exhibited in group shows around the world, while public spaces accommodate his monuments, such as the one dedicated to Pinot Gallizio and Constant in Alba. Cosimo Veneziano is also co-founder of the international residency Progetto Diogene established in 2007 in Turin.

The exhibition Break the window and steal the fragments! is open Monday through Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. and is part of the AlbumArte | Flash! exhibition cycle. The opening is Monday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Free admission. For more information you can visit the AlbumArte website.
