Caravaggio exhibition in Milan extended: here's what to know

The exhibition 'Inside Caravaggio' in Milan's Palazzo Reale has been extended until Feb. 4. An extra week to see it.

The major exhibition Dentro Caravaggio currently underway at Milan’s Palazzo Reale has been extended by a week: in fact, the closure initially scheduled for Sunday, January 28, has been postponed to Sunday, February 4. The decision was made by the management of Palazzo Reale and producer MondoMostre Skira, given the great success of the exhibition: from September 29 to January 17, more than 320,000 visitors came to Milan to admire the works of Michelangelo Merisi (Milan, 1571 - Porto Ercole, 1610). At this link you can read our review of the exhibition, written by Ilaria Baratta.

During the extended week, the exhibition will be open daily from 9:30 a.m. to midnight, except Monday, January 29, when it will open at 1:30 p.m. Entrance, in the last week, will be allowed only to unbooked individual visitors: therefore, groups and open ticket holders will not be allowed to enter, nor will reservations be possible. The organization recommends choosing the evening bands. Last access at 11 pm.

Then, on January 29 and 30, there will be two Study Days (meetings with free admission subject to availability, in the Conference Room of Piazza Duomo 14) that will feature, on the first day, Rossella Vodret (curator of the exhibition), Keith Christiansen (Metropolitan of New York), Alessandro Zuccari (University La Sapienza of Rome), Raffaella Morselli (University of Teramo), Francesca Cappelletti (University of Ferrara), Stefania Macioce (University La Sapienza of Rome), Cristina Terzaghi (University of Roma Tre), and Massimo Ammaniti (University La Sapienza of Rome). On the second day, all dedicated to Caravaggio’s painting technique, there will instead be Claudio Falcucci (responsible for the diagnostic investigations of several works in the exhibition), Kamilla Kalinina (Hermitage of St. Pietrbourgo), Ulderico Santamaria and Fabio Morresi(Vatican Museums), Isabella Castiglioni (CNR - Institute of Bioimaging and Molecular Physiology). The study days, like the exhibition, were made possible thanks to contributions from the Bracco Group and Intesa Sanpaolo. Here is the full program:
