In Milan travel notes from two Italian photographers

Milan's Francesco Zanuso Gallery is hosting Gianni Viviani and Ludovica Sagramoso Sacchetti's photography exhibition from February 6 to 27, 2020.

From February 6 to 27, 2020, Galleria Francesco Zanuso in Milan will host the exhibition Appunti di viaggio di due fotografi italiani.

The photographic exhibition will welcome forty unpublished shots taken by Gianni Viviani and Ludovica Sagramoso Sacchetti: the colors of Madagascar immortalized by the former will join the Western atmospheres of the latter.

Gianni Viviani, with his camera around his neck, captures the here and now, going in search of the smile on a child’s face, the seductive gaze of a young woman, the wear and tear of a life on an old man’s body, the humility of fatigue on a man’s face, “to give dignity to that humanity made of difficulties, poverty, small things, which my attention enriched with light and shadow,” as the author himself says. He adds, “I am interested in capturing the moment, in representing life in its humblest aspects, in doing so with delicacy and respect.” He then roams the streets of Madagascar looking for moments of ordinary life, gestures and habits to be captured in their spontaneous immediacy. We see a girl in Anakao carrying a huge fish in a bucket carried on her head, work in the rice fields, the textile market on the small island of Nosy Be, the colors of the market around Ankarana. The photographer’s intention is not to tell a story, but to return the impression of the moment quickly, directly and sincerely.

Ludovica Sagramoso Sacchetti ’s shots capture the contradictions inherent in our usual routine, offered in Milan and throughout Italy. A park devoid of people in which the colors of autumn foliage dominate, the swirling comings and goings of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in the Lombard capital, the wide view of a crowded Milanese Darsena in winter, portrayed in black and white. “Creative thinking, by definition, is not satisfied with the everyday, which it already knows, but breaks the rules, opens up to novel experiences, seeks new answers,” the artist declares.

Hours: Monday through Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m.; Friday and other times by appointment.

Free admission.
