MANN digitizes statues from the Farnese collection

A project to digitize statues from the Farnese collection begins at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.

The Archaeological Museum of Naples has announced a collaboration with the Flyover Zone service company of Bloomington(Indiana, USA) to digitize twenty-three sculptures from the Baths of Caracalla, in order to include the masterpieces in the online environment of the Rome Reborn macro-project: the works of the Farnese Collection will be digitized in 3D and then become part of a tour available on smartphones(Android, iPhone), laptops and PCs(Windows 10 and Macintosh) and Vr goggles(HTC Vive and Oculus). MANN will be able to share this tour on its own platforms, also using individual 3D models for research and enhancement purposes. Also included in the reconstructions will be the traces of color that the statues displayed in ancient times.

“Flyover Zone,” says Paolo Giulerini, director of the MANN, “is a pioneer company in the creation of virtual realities: the purpose is not only scientific, but above all to promote our heritage. We will have the opportunity to make the treasures of a historical MANN Collection even better known and at a distance.”

“The dream has become a reality. We are honored to be able to offer our innovative technology, which combines advanced 3D models and architectural reconstructions. Rome Reborn will allow people to enter the Baths of Caracalla, experiencing a true journey through time,” adds Bernard Frischer, President of Flyover Zone.
