Fabrizio Magani has been appointed as the new director general for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Ministry of Culture. The ministerial appointment was forwarded by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Culture Committees of the House and Senate, thus entrusting Magani with one of the most relevant roles in the protection of the nation’s cultural heritage.
With a long career in the cultural heritage sector behind him, art historian Fabrizio Magani has held numerous positions of responsibility. Among the most recent, the direction of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the municipality of Venice and the lagoon, after having led, the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Belluno, Padua and Treviso and that for the provinces of Verona, Rovigo and Vicenza. From 2010 to 2014, he also headed, in a general-level management position, the Regional Directorate for Cultural and Landscape Heritage of Abruzzo at a particularly delicate time: the post-earthquake period of 2009. There, he coordinated numerous reconstruction projects.
In the course of his work, he was also appointed Deputy Director General for the implementation of the “Great Pompeii Project” and the extraordinary and urgent program of preventive and restorative conservation work at the archaeological site. He was then a member of several scientific committees and the author of numerous essays and monographs
