New discovery in Pompeii: a domus with a fresco of Priapus

During excavations in Regio V of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, a domus decorated with a fresco depicting Priapus was discovered.

More finds in Regio V of the Pompeii Archaeological Park: this is a dwelling located on Via del Vesuvio that is finely decorated and features a fresco at the entrance depicting Priapus, an ancient deity characterized by endowed genital parts. In the depiction, the character is in the act of weighing his penis on a scale.

Inside the Pompeii Archaeological Park there is another figure of Priapus, placed at the entrance of the House of the Vettii, not far from the rediscovered domus.

The director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, Massimo Osanna, is satisfied, saying, “Protection in Pompeii, conducted correctly and systematically, leads to extraordinary discoveries.”

The excavation work in this area is part of the larger work of securing the excavation fronts, which mark the 22 hectares of unexcavated area of Pompeii, planned by the Great Pompeii Project and will involve about three kilometers of fronts.
