Single Fund for the Performing Arts, Mibac approves 10 million euro increase

Single Fund for Performing Arts, unanimously approved 10 million euro increase for 2018.

The Ministry of Cultural Heritage ’s Council for the Performing Arts unanimously approved the scheme for allocating supplementary resources to the Single Fund for the Performing Arts (FUS) for the year 2018, with the result that the Fund is now increased by ten million euros: the total FUS allocation for 2018 is therefore 343,941,798 euros.

“Today I am happy,” said the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Alberto Bonisoli, “because we have allocated 10 million euros more to the Single Fund for the Performing Arts, recovering a lack of the past legislature. In 2018 we will give, to the whole performing arts world, more resources. In this way we have increased the FUS compared to 2017, in line with our goal of increasing funds for culture. Performing arts is the sector most at risk of homogenization, so we need to invest to keep cultural offerings alive, rich and diverse. It is a grassroots activity that must be given maximum protection and attention to ensure democracy in our country. In fact, we have to be sure that there is no cultural hegemony and that only those shows that have a safe market or audience go on and are offered. It must also be possible for young talent to innovate, experiment, and basically see shows that some people might like and others might not. The cultural offer must be as broad as possible.”
