Le Palais Ducal, a 1908 painting by Claude Monet, was sold at auction by Sotheby's for more than 27 million pounds.

On the evening of February 26, 2019, the painting created by Claude Monet entitled Le Palais Ducal was sold at auction at Sotheby ’s.

The work by the famous Impressionist was at auction for the first time and belonged to the Erich Goeritz collection. Estimated at between P20 million and P30 million, it sold for P27,534,000.



The painting depicts the facade of the Doge’s Palace in Venice reflected in the canal water. Tones of blue, pink, purple, orange and white combine to create light and reflections typical of Impressionist painting.
The canvas is signed and dated, lower right, 1908. Monet and his second wife Alice stayed in the lagoon city from October and December 1908.The great artist was fascinated by Venice and made thirty-seven paintings here depicting various aspects and views of the beautiful city.
