Yesterday morning around 10 a.m. a theft was committed at the Archaeological Museum in Aosta: six Byzantine coins were stolen.

The perpetrator was a man wearing sunglasses who forced a display case on the ground floor and escaped. By the time the janitor arrived at the scene of the theft, the man had disappeared.
Now police are investigating using images from security cameras that captured the incident.

The Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of the Aosta Valley Region said, “He went for sure, he knew what to take. We have not yet quantified the value of the coins but these are pieces that are difficult to resell on the art market.”
