Coming from Budapest to Rome, at Palazzo Barberini, Giorgione's Portrait of a Young Man

From the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest the Portrait of a Young Man or Portrait of Antonio Brocardo attributed to Giorgione is coming to Rome. From November 29, 2025 to March 8, 2026, it will in fact be exhibited at Palazzo Barberini.

From Nov. 29, 2025 to March 8, 2026, the National Galleries of Ancient Art at Palazzo Barberini in Rome will welcome, under the curatorship of Michele Di Monte, the celebrated Portrait of a Young Man, also known as Portrait of Antonio Brocardo and attributed to Giorgione, on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. Made around 1503, the painting represents a valuable opportunity to view the work in Italy.

The Ritratto di Giovane (Portrait of a Young Man ) will be placed in dialogue with Giorgione ’s famous Doppio ritratto (Double Portrait ) housed in Palazzo Venezia and exceptionally loaned by VIVE - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia in Rome, thanks to a collaboration agreement between the two institutions of the Ministry of Culture. The direct comparison between the two works, placed side by side in the same exhibition project, aims to highlight the distinctive features of Giorgione’s innovation, which emerge clearly in the close view of the two paintings.
