Art and environmental disasters: a conference in Venice

On November 11, 2017 in Venice, Palazzo Mora will host a conference on art and environmental disasters, on the sidelines of an exhibition on the topic.

A round table dedicated to the theme of"art and environmental disasters will be held in Venice on Saturday, November 11: invited are some representatives of the world of art and culture to reflect on a topic of great significance, from an expanded perspective. In fact, representatives of the scientific environment will also sit at the table: the goal will be an informal conversation for a discussion on a possible relationship between art and science in the face of the urgency of natural disasters.

The idea for the conference stems from a photographic work, Enchanted Nature, exhibited at Palazzo Mora (and visitable until Nov. 26) as part of the exhibition Personal Structures, a collateral event of the 2017 edition of the Venice Biennale: “it is the awareness of a state of alert,” we read in the presentation, “of an imbalance, of a tangible and at first glance little-remedial crack between man and the environment.”

The roundtable is scheduled to include talks by Pietro Pelizzaro, who will talk about urban resilience, Nicola Nottoli (renovation of an ecomuseum), Giulio Grillo (recycling of art materials from the Biennial), Antonella Grana (mapping the territory to build a bridge between recycling culture and entrepreneurship), Lara Caccia (report on the use and recycling of materials in contemporary art), and a scientific talk by researcher Carla Bordini Bellandi. The panel discussion, which will be held at Palazzo Mora from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on November 11, 2017, will be preceded at 1:30 p.m. by a guided tour of the exhibition.
