A major exhibition reconstructs the environments of Lucio Fontana

A major exhibition, 'Lucio Fontana. Ambienti/Environments' that will reconstruct ten spaces conceived by the great theorist of Spatialism.

Opening next Sept. 20 atHangar Bicocca in Milan is the exhibition Lucio Fontana. Ambienti/Environments, which will reconstruct ten spatial environments conceived by Lucio Fontana (Rosario, 1899 - Comabbio, 1968), recreated for the first time after the artist’s death. A major event, organized by the Lucio Fontana Foundation and curated by Marina Pugliese, Barbara Ferriani and Vicente Todolí, that delves into a lesser-known aspect of the great theorist of Spatialism’s production.

In fact, the artist, starting in 1949, designed and created architectural spaces that intended to open a space beyond the canvas: a research that stood as a natural continuation of the celebrated cuts and holes. They were shown in several exhibitions (for example, at the Naviglio Gallery in Milan, at the Milan Triennale but also at Documenta 4 in Kassel in 1968) and were almost always destroyed at the end of the event. The exhibition runs until March 25, 2018, and the catalog is published by Mousse Publishing.
