"Cinema! Stories, protagonists, landscapes": an exhibition at Rovigo's Palazzo Roverella investigates cinema's attraction to the Po Delta.

Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo is hosting until July 1, 2018 an extensive exhibition titled"Cinema! Stories, protagonists, landscapes" to show the attraction of cinema for the Po Delta.

In fact, this area has been the protagonist of as many as 500 films, documentaries, dramas, by the greatest directors such as Luchino Visconti, Roberto Rossellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Mario Soldati, Pupi Avati, Ermanno Olmi and Carlo Mazzacurati.

Thus, scene and set photos, posters, playbills, original documents, screenplays, archival materials, video montages, documentaries, and interviews are presented in the exhibition.

Some examples of films are Luchino Visconti’s Ossessione , Rossellini’s Paisà, Giuseppe de SantisCaccia Tragica. Also, Uomini della palude and Tre canne e un soldo, documentaries by Florestano Vancini, Antonioni ’s Gente del Po, and many others.

Curator Alberto Barbera said, “The exhibition aims to reconstruct the history of the intense, profound and original relationship established over more than eighty years between an area with almost unique characteristics and Italian filmmakers, resulting in unforgettable works destined to remain in the history of cinema.”

The exhibition is sponsored by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova with Accademia dei Concordi and the Municipality of Rovigo.
