Contradictions of femininity, human-animal stories, third age: the winners of the Italy Photo Award

The winners of the second stage of the Italy Photo Award - Voglino Prize have been announced: Francesca Todde, Maria Clara Macrì and Jordan Angelo Cozzi.

Winners of the second stage of theItaly Photo Award - Premio Voglino held as part of Milano Photo Week are Francesca Todde, Maria Clara Macrì and Jordan Angelo Cozzi.

Following the two days of work at BASE on June 8 and 9, 2019, and the evaluation of each portfolio, the jury made up of curators, gallery owners, art directors and photo editors named Francesca Todde the stage winner and a candidate for the semi-final for the Best Portfolio category. Her submitted work Tristan - A sensitive education is an “excellent work - in progress - on a very original theme and on a human-animal story, reported in a delicate, tender and different way, in its special professional and relational dimension, which is that of a boy (Tristan) who trains birds by dialoguing with them through a sensitive education.”

Maria Clara Macrì was named stage winner and semi-final nominee for the Young Talent category. Her project In her rooms was awarded “for the author’s ability to explore in a broad and projectual way a concept (the nuances and contradictions of the feminine, gender stereotypes, cultural and racial contamination typical of large metropolises) that lies at the heart of contemporary sensibility,” using “an evocative and personal visual language, visceral though structured through in-depth reflection.”

Finally, Jordan Angelo Cozzi with his project Truelove was declared the winner of the 2019 Scholarship Award, put up for grabs by the Italian Institute of Photography “for the merit of having deepened and developed through the medium of photography an unusual theme for a young person, the world of the third age, in an original and conscious way and, above all, with the intention of going deeper and deeper into issues related to the ’modernity’ of the senior world in an attempt to unhinge its stereotypes by virtue of new perspectives.”

The first two will continue their run at the Prize for the Enhancement of Talented Italian Authors, while Jordan Angelo Cozzi will be able to attend, with full coverage offered by the same Institute, the second year of the Biennial Professional Photography Course “in a path of professional growth, but also of strong human sensitivity in relation to the photographic medium.”

The other artists selected as finalists are Andrea & Magda, Gianluca Abblasio, Jacob Balzani Lööv, Mariagrazia Beruffi, Renata Busettini, Sabina Candusso, Gabriele Cecconi, Sara Cervelli, Francesco Cilli, Federica Cocciro, Pierluigi Costantini, Tiziano Demuro, Ilaria Di Biagio, Riccardo Dogana, Yuri Faeti, Alecio Ferrari, Barbara Leolini, Fabio Magara, Yelena Steffen Milanesi, Denny Mollica & Hugo Weber, Claudia Professione, Claudio Rizzini, Mauro Scarfone, Marco Sconocchia, Isabella Sommati, Elisa Tomaselli, Serena Vittorini, Giorgia Zaffanelli, Lorenzo Zoppolato, Federica Zucchini.
