Florence, Palazzo Strozzi records 8,000 admissions in penultimate weekend of Marina Abramović exhibition

At Palazzo Strozzi, the last weekend marked great visitor numbers: for the penultimate weekend of the exhibition Marina Abramović. The Cleaner, in fact, more than 8,000 people in two days crowded the halls of the Florentine institution. The exhibition has thus totaled 160,000 visitors to date. The exhibition is still on view for one week at Palazzo Strozzi: this is the first major Italian retrospective exhibition dedicated to one of the most famous and controversial personalities of contemporary art, whose works revolutionized the idea of performance by challenging his own body, its limits and its potential for expression(at this link you can find the photos we took at the exhibition, while at this one you can find the review of The Cleaner stage that preceded the one in Florence and was held in Bonn in mid-2018).

The event brings together more than 100 works by the artist, offering an overview of the most famous works of his career, from the 1960s to the 2000s, through videos, photographs, paintings, objects, installations and the live re-enactment of his famous performances by a group of performers specifically selected and trained for the exhibition. Indeed, the exhibition finds its fundamental feature in the re-performances, which will alternate each day within the exhibition, making Palazzo Strozzi a changing and constantly transforming space, in the spaces of the Piano Nobile and the Strozzina: Imponderabilia, Cleaning the Mirror, Luminosity, The Freeing Series (Memory, Voice, Body). In addition, exceptionally, on Sunday, Jan. 20, reperformances will be increased and from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. it will be possible to see Luminosity and also Freeing the Voice, which for the last day of the exhibition will start at 2 p.m.

The exhibition is organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, produced by Moderna Museet, Stockholm in collaboration with Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk and Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn. Curated by Arturo Galansino, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, Lena Essling, Moderna Museet, with Tine Colstrup, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, and Susanne Kleine, Bundeskunsthalle.
