Verona, for a month, access to the Courtyard of Juliet's House will be by fee and reservation only

From December 6, 2025 to January 6, 2026, for security reasons, there will be no free access to the Courtyard of Juliet's House in Verona. The cost will be 12 euros and access will be restricted by reservation.

From Dec. 6, 2025 to Jan. 6, 2026, access to the Courtyard of Juliet’s House in Verona will be allowed only to those who purchase a ticket to visit the house museum and to customers of businesses facing the Courtyard. In fact, for security reasons, it will not be possible to freely access the courtyard during this period, in view of the Christmas holidays and the consequent increase in tourist flows to one of the most visited places in the city. Pending the final agreement that will allow the entrance to be moved to Piazzetta Navona, the City Council has therefore established that for one month access from Via Cappello for visitors will be regulated by making reservations through the Civic Museums website (the official museiverona.com portal).

Fares include a full ticket costing 12 euros, even for those who only want to go to touch the breast of Juliet’s statue placed in the Courtyard (a gesture considered good luck according to tradition) or take a souvenir photo with her. A 9 euro reduction is available intended for groups of at least fifteen people, the over-65s, and visitors who fall under specific conventions. Young people between the ages of 18 and 25 can take advantage of a further reduced ticket price of 3 euros. On the other hand, admission is free for all children and young people up to 17 years of age, with an accompanying person required for those under 14, and for people with disabilities together with their accompanying person. VeronaCard holders and other categories identified by museum regulations are also entitled to access without payment.

As for the hours, access will be possible from Tuesday to Sunday on a continuous basis from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., while the last entry will be possible at 6:30 p.m. However, access will not be possible on Mondays, as well as on the holidays of December 25 and January 1. However, two special openings are planned: one on Monday, Dec. 8, and another on Monday, Jan. 5, so as to allow for an additional opportunity to visit during a busy period.

However, the City is pursuing an agreement with the Teatro Nuovo Society and the Fondazione Atlantide - Teatro Stabile di Verona, aimed at making the entrance from Piazzetta Navona through the Teatro Nuovo stable. Until the agreement is concluded, presumably after the holidays, the compulsory entrance from 23 Via Cappello requires strict flow control, which is why the Administration has found it necessary to restrict access by introducing a regulated system.

The measure envisages two distinct access routes to the Courtyard: on the one hand, the one reserved for visitors with a ticket to Juliet’s House, and on the other hand, the one dedicated exclusively to customers of the businesses inside the Courtyard. Visits will be distributed in predetermined slots, allowing groups of 45 people to enter every 15 minutes. At the same time, in order to further reduce the pressure on a space recently affected by a new emergency plan prepared by the Teatro Nuovo and also shared with the other co-owners of the commercial establishments facing the courtyard, the maximum capacity of Juliet’s House is temporarily reduced for this period from 130 to 100 people, including in this number also the operators and security staff. In order to ensure a more punctual and controlled management, the security garrison has also been reinforced with two additional guards who will watch over the progress of access and compliance with the measures taken.

It remains essential to remember that admission to Juliet’s House, during this period, must be booked exclusively online through the Verona Civic Museums website, selecting the desired date and time slot in advance.

“Never would a councillor for Culture and Tourism wish to restrict access to a place as beloved as the Courtyard and Juliet’s House. However, when people’s safety comes into play,” said Councillor for Culture and Tourism Marta Ugolini, “it is our duty to take appropriate protective measures, especially in the presence of extraordinary flows such as those expected over the Christmas period. The solution identified was shared with the Teatro Nuovo Society, the Fondazione Atlantide-Teatro Stabile di Verona and the other co-owners of the courtyard. The City Council, in addition to ensuring, as always, the overall coordination of operations, will take charge of a reinforcement of the security guard service, which is essential to ensure an orderly and safe handling of visitors. We are aware of the temporary inconveniences, but we believe that this choice is necessary to protect both people and a symbolic place of our city. With the conclusion of the agreement that has already begun, we will be able to offer visitors a more welcoming and structured and culturally significant route, which will benefit everyone.”
