Raphael in Chantilly. Paintings and drawings by the master and his pupils on display.

The Domaine de Chantilly hosts the exhibition Raphael at Chantilly. The Master and his Pupils, for the 500th anniversary of his death.

From March 7 to July 5, 2020, the Domaine de Chantilly is hosting the exhibition Raphael at Chantilly. The Master and His Students, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Urbino artist’s death.

An exhibition that aims to celebrate Raphael through his graphic and pictorial production. The Condé Museum at the Domaine de Chantilly is considered, in France, one of the most important institutions for the study of the artist, after the Louvre: in fact, it preserves three paintings by the master(The Three Graces, The Madonna d’Orléans and the Madonna of Loreto) and a large number of drawings by Raphael and his circle.

The drawings brought together by the Duke of Aumale cover the entire artistic activity of the Urbino artist: starting with his first drawings, the exhibition focuses on the study of the great religious compositions of the Florentine period and the masterpieces related to the great Roman frescoes, concluding with the rich production of his pupils.

The exhibition also offers comparisons, as in the case of Lille’s preparatory drawings for the Madonna of Loreto, which recall the work of the same name in the Galerie de Peinture in Chantilly.

The exhibition is curated by Mathieu Deldicque, curator of the Condé Museum, with the collaboration of Novella Franco, and boasts the support of the Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly and Christie’s.
