The Royal Palace of Caserta opens to the little ones: summer campus in the Vanvitellian complex kicks off

The Royal Palace of Caserta opens to children with "A Royal Palace to Discover," an educational and creative campus between the Royal Apartments and Park. From Aug. 25 to Sept. 5, 2025, an experiential journey to learn about the heritage with new eyes.

From August 25 to September 5, 2025, the Royal Palace of Caserta is offering an initiative designed for the youngest children, inside a place that is a symbol of Italian history and cultural heritage. In fact, the Reggia di Caserta Museum, in collaboration with Opera Laboratori, has organized Una Reggia da scoprire, a summer campus aimed at children between the ages of six and 10, with the goal of bringing them closer to the knowledge of the UNESCO site through educational activities marked by sharing and creativity.

The experience will take place in the spaces of the Vanvitellian Complex, transformed for the occasion into a learning and play environment. The intent is to stimulate sensory development, curiosity and creative thinking in children through an approach that combines play, observation and manual activities. The campus promotes education based on direct experience, in which the monumental and natural context of the Reggia becomes an integral part of the educational process.

The course will be divided into two sessions: the first from August 25 to 29, the second from September 1 to 5, with a suspension on August 26 and September 2. Activities will take place each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can join the entire weekly package or take part in individual days. The summer camp is designed to be inclusive and accessible: for children with disabilities or special needs, customizable solutions are provided and can be agreed upon during registration.

The educational proposal combines playful, artistic and narrative elements, offering a different theme each day, related to history, art, nature and contemporary culture. The program opens on Monday, August 25, with an Escape Room designed as an interactive visit that will transform the Royal Apartments into an escape game. Children will be asked to follow a series of clues to find their way around and find their way out, learning to observe and interpret the space with attention and team spirit. On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the activity “Court Colors Guided by Colorina” will take participants to explore the king’s rooms with the goal of associating emotions with colors and architectural forms. The visit will be followed by a hands-on workshop in which children will create their own “Royal Room” through collages of paper, cloth and salvaged materials. This is an exercise that relates space, perception and individual expression.

The next day, Thursday, Aug. 28, the theme will be “On the Trails of the Muses.” Children will be accompanied in the Royal Park on a path that interweaves nature, myth and creativity, discovering the Muses, the arts and their symbols. The landscape setting becomes the backdrop for a sensory and narrative experience, where observation and play encourage a cognitive approach. On Friday, August 29, the workshop will focus on the figure of Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of Italy’s most significant contemporary artists. Children will be offered an itinerary that, starting from his work, aims to stimulate reflection on personal responsibility and the relationship between art and everyday reality. At the end, the young participants will be invited to create a work of art inspired by their own experience and the world around them.

On Monday, Sept. 1, the planned activity is a tour inside the Royal Apartments, followed by a workshop in which children will create personal representations of the deities they encounter, developing an individual narrative that combines imagination and historical interpretation. On Wednesday, Sept. 3, the experience will be devoted to the collective construction of an outdoor work. Children, using a long colored ribbon, will shape the symbol of Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Third Paradise , working together to produce an image that represents peace and harmony. The workshop promotes cooperation and reflection on the shared meaning of universal symbols. On Thursday, Sept. 4, the tour will start from the Bosco Vecchio and lead participants to discover the Castelluccia, a small fort nestled in the greenery of the Royal Park. The tour combines historical narrative and fantasy, retracing the games and pastimes of the royal courts. Children will experience a journey that interweaves storytelling, exploration and play. The last day, Friday, Sept. 5, will be dedicated to nature observation and botanical exploration. After a walk in the Old Woods, children will learn to recognize plants and discover their uses in the past. Each participant will compile a notebook with notes, drawings and collected specimens, making a personal herbarium that will become a tangible memory of the experience.

The summer camp will be activated only upon reaching a minimum number of five participants for each day or session. Actual activation will be communicated at least seven working days before the start date. It is also possible to request a preliminary meeting with parents to assess any specific needs and ensure that each child is properly accommodated.
