Uffizi, work on the panoramic terrace completed. After half a century renewed the pietra serena flooring

Renovation work at the Uffizi Gallery’s viewing terrace is finished. The almost 50-year-old pietra serena flooring has been entirely replaced with new slabs. The work lasted a week and covered half of the 250-square-meter terrace area: a truck with a thirty-meter metal boom set up in Piazza della Signoria was also needed to complete it.

The Uffizi terrace dates back to the late 16th century, and in ancient times there were fragrant plants, fountains with spouts on which shiny metal birds were suspended, and it was a place of recreation for the Medici, who used it, the museum says, to enjoy the view of the city, as tourists do today.
