Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio launches his foundation: will open cultural hub in Pietrasanta

LMDV Foundation, a philanthropic project of entrepreneur Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, is born: in the cultural sphere, the first project will be the establishment of a new hub in the center of Pietrasanta, Tuscany.

LMDV Foundation, established on the initiative of Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, entrepreneur and son of Luxottica founder Leonardo Del Vecchio, is officially born. The new entity represents the evolution of a commitment matured through personal initiatives, collaborations with Third Sector organizations and projects dedicated to inclusion, health, training and support for the new generations. The foundation aims to be a stable project platform capable of devising, developing and supporting concrete and replicable interventions, transforming experiences already underway into an organized and structured model. The stated goal is to operate in the areas of training, access to work, social housing, culture and community development, promoting pathways capable of strengthening autonomy, dignity and participation.

“I felt the need to give a home, a structure and continuity to a path that has grown over the years through meetings, responsibilities and concrete projects,” says Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio. “Philanthropy cannot be limited to the disbursement of resources: it must build alliances, listen to the territories and create conditions so that people can have autonomy and perspective. LMDV Foundation was created for this: to transform a personal commitment into a platform capable of generating opportunities, autonomy and future.”

The foundation’s strategy finds its first operational translation in four projects already launched or under development, chosen as examples of a working method that aims to start from the analysis of real needs, build solid partnerships, involve different skills and develop sustainable models over time. One of the first interventions is Finally Home!, a project carried out in collaboration with the Community of Sant’Egidio. The initiative involves the rehabilitation of a former industrial area located in Tor Sapienza, on the eastern outskirts of Rome, for the creation of a social co-housing model aimed at elderly people living alone and families who have arrived in Italy through humanitarian corridors. Among the initiatives promoted by the foundation is Mastri 4.0, a program that focuses on the value of craftsmanship as a tool for personal and professional dignity. The project was created with the intention of promoting the job placement of people in fragile conditions through training, accompaniment and access to the productive world. The initiative aims to enhance technical and professional skills, encouraging the creation of concrete opportunities for those at risk of being excluded from the labor market. The idea is to build pathways that are not limited to theoretical training, but that accompany participants toward real job placement, while strengthening their economic and social autonomy. Another front of intervention concerns the territory of Agordo, in the Belluno area, a particularly significant place for the history of the Del Vecchio family and for the EssilorLuxottica world. Here the foundation is supporting the modernization and development of the new children’s center dedicated to the 0-6 age group.

As for culture, it is on this territory that the fourth intervention, currently under development, is focused, and it concerns the city of Pietrasanta, in Tuscany. Here Fondazione LMDV is working on the creation of a new cultural hub designed as a contemporary social infrastructure. The goal is to create an open, accessible and intergenerational space capable of integrating cultural activities, opportunities for aggregation and services aimed at the territory.

The basic idea is to promote culture not only as a tool for artistic production, but also as an element capable of generating inclusion, participation and social cohesion. The future hub should become a reference point for citizens, associations and local realities, contributing to the cultural and relational development of the community.

Pietrasanta is a place known to Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, who in early 2025 took over the management of Twiga, a famous club on the Versilia waterfront in Fiumetto. According to what is known, the town will be equipped with a new library for which Del Vecchio, as early as November 2025, had disbursed a sum of 1.8 million euros to the town’s coffers as a “financial sponsorship”, as the Tirreno newspaper explained, to make the realization of the cultural hub materialize in the premises of the former city hall in Matteotti Square, where the library will move from its current location in the St. Augustine complex.
