At the Irpino Museum, Milo Manara revisits a very famous work by Mozart with his drawings

A national premiere and unabridged version of the exhibition "Milo Manara - Cosi fan tutte. The metamorphoses of love, an exhibition of the sketches of the scenes and costumes of Mozart's opera."

From Jan. 13 to March 9, 2024, the exhibition Milo Manara - Cosi fan tutte - comes to the Museo Irpino in Avellino as a national premiere and in its entirety, after debuting in a shortened version at the 56th traditional opera season of the Pergolesi Theater in Jesi. The Metamorphoses of Love, an exhibition of sketches of the sets and costumes of Mozart’s opera, curated by Comicon.

The exhibition presents a never-before-seen and special collection of costume and set designs from one of the most famous operas in the international opera scene, Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (first staged on Jan. 26, 1790, in Vienna), reworked by Milo Manara. The latter designed the opera’s sets and costumes by elaborating “an ancient, two-dimensional scenography made up of wings, backdrops, retractable doors, and small ingenuities of theatrical machinery.”

The drawings in the exhibition hark back to the pictorial trends of a stylized 18th century, among ivory, pink and light blue nuances, with the intention of being an invitation to enter the world of Mozart’s opera, making the visitor feel like a privileged spectator within the set design itself.

The exhibition will also be enriched by nine illustrations, created by Manara himself on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s first concert in Italy, held in the halls of the Palazzo Todeschi in Rovereto on December 25, 1769; nine images to retrace the main moments of the three operas that have marked the history of music: Le nozze di Figaro (K 492), Don Giovanni (K 527) and Così fan tutte itself (K 588).

The exhibition will open on Saturday, January 13, at 5 p.m. and will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The project expands COMICON’s current international cultural and exhibition offerings.
