Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man has returned to Italy. The possibility of exhibiting it every year is being studied

Leonardo da Vinci’sVitruvian Man has returned to Italy, after spending two months in France at the major exhibition that the Louvre in Paris dedicated to the Tuscan genius on the 500th anniversary of his death. The drawing has already reached its home, the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, under the supervision of director Giulio Manieri Elia, who on Dec. 18, the date of the work’s return, supervised all the stages of its transportation, which was overseen by Arteria, with the collaboration of the Carabinieri of the Nucleo di Tutela, the Airport Police and Save (Presidency and External Relations Office).

Now the idea of the Galleries is to enhance the drawing: thus, Manieri Elia, together with the head of the Cabinet of Drawings, Valeria Poletto, and restorers Loretta Salvador and Karmen Corak, are studying the possibility, once the necessary period of rest of the work is over (however, the duration has not yet been officially communicated), of exhibiting theVitruvian Man to the public, in the rooms that will house the graphic works of the collection, every year for a circumscribed period of time defined according to due conservation precautions. According to the museum’s management, this solution would give everyone the opportunity to admire this masterpiece, which has been kept at the Galleries since 1822, when it was purchased along with the rest of the graphic collection that belonged to the Milanese Giuseppe Bossi.

In addition, a permanent space dedicated to the complexity of the drawing and its contents will be designed through the use of advanced technologies for virtual fruition, thus allowing a continuous experience of the work even when the original sheet cannot be exhibited.
