Over the weekend of Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, 2026, 540,000 visitors took part in the initiative promoted by FAI - Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano ETS, taking part in the 34th edition of the FAI Days of Spring, the national event dedicated to the enhancement of Italy’s rich cultural heritage and landscape. During this widespread celebration, 780 places of art, history and nature opened their doors to the public, distributed in 400 cities throughout the country. Many of these places, which are often little known, undervalued or usually closed to the public, were open to the public for free. The initiative was made possible thanks to the efforts of 7,500 volunteersbelonging to FAI Delegations and Groups, joined by 17,000 Apprentice Tour Guides: secondary school students specially prepared by their teachers to guide visitors to discover local heritage.
As for the most visited places, in first place was the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples. This was followed in second place by the Supreme Court of Cassation based in the Palace of Justice in Rome and, also in the capital, the Palazzo della Cancelleria in third place. In fourth position are Porta Nuova and the Cavallerizza at the C.M.E. “Sicilia” in Palermo, while in fifth place is the Historic Garden of Villa Sgariglia in Grottammare. The regions with the highest attendance were Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto.
FAI properties normally open to the public also took part in the initiative, welcoming numerous visitors. Among them, the most visited site was Villa dei Vescovi in Luvigliano di Torreglia (Padua), followed in a tie by Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli and Villa del Balbianello in Tremezzina. In third place was Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan.
Through the FAI Spring Days, the organization offered hundreds of thousands of people, including many young people, the opportunity to exercise, with awareness and curiosity, the right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community, as enshrined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. At the same time, FAI was able to promote its public interest mission, geared toward the protection, care and enhancement of Italy’s cultural heritage, in addition to the activities it carries out on a daily basis.
Among those present at the event was Minister Giuseppe Valditara, who welcomed visitors at the Ministry of Education and Merit building on Saturday morning. The building, designed in 1912 by Cesare Bazzani and opened exceptionally over the weekend, wanted to emphasize the educational value of the initiative.
