More than three million euros to enable Italian museums to acquire, produce and enhance works of contemporary art. These are the funds that the Ministry of Culture, through the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity, has decided to allocate to the 39 projects selected within the framework of the public notice PAC2021 - Plan for Contemporary Art for project proposals for the acquisition, production and valorization of works of contemporary art and creativity destined for the Italian public heritage.
In view of the quality of the proposals and in order to be able to admit to funding all projects considered eligible by the Evaluation Committee, the initial resources of 3,182,551 euros were increased by 545,122 euros, for an overall total of 3,727,673 euros. The public notice, implementing the provisions of Art. 3 of Law No. 29/2001 establishing the PAC, is the priority tool for increasing the heritage of Italian public collections implemented by the DGCC.
“Investing in contemporary art and creativity,” says Culture Minister Dario Franceschini, “enriches the state’s cultural heritage and represents an investment in the future of our country’s culture, its young talents and great masters. It is a duty to enhance and promote the new generations of contemporary artists.”
“We are very satisfied with the quality of the 98 proposals received for PAC2021, which confirms the validity of this line of action,” says Onofrio Cutaia, director general of Contemporary Creativity. “After the positive results of the previous edition, 39 more cultural places will be able to expand their collections with works that speak the different languages of the contemporary and enhance the dialogue between past and present, offering visitors the experience of an uninterrupted creative flow between yesterday and today. Places of culture are thus configured, more and more, as open laboratories, capable of attracting diverse audiences and ready to adopt a more transversal and inclusive vision of the arts.”
