Masterpieces... on the wrist: watch line reinterprets famous MoMA works, from Van Gogh to Klimt

Starting March 4, a special line of Swatch watches inspired by some of MoMa's masterpieces, from Van Gogh to Gustav Klimt to Piet Mondrian, will be available.

A special line of Swatch watches will be dedicated to some of the masterpieces of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York: Swatch X MoMA will allow art and watch enthusiasts to always have famous works on their wrist. Six in particular: Van Gogh’s Starry Night (1889), Klimt’s Hope II (1907-1908), Henri Rousseau’s Dream (1910), Piet Mondrian’s Composition in Oval with Planes of Color 1 (1914), The City and Design, The Wonders of Life on Earth, Isamu Kurita (1966) and Tadanori Yokoo’s New York (1968). The watches are available from March 4, 2021 at Swatch stores, swatch.com, and MoMA Design Stores; they can be purchased individually or all together in a collector’s edition inspired by MoMA’s Blade Stairs.

“We are proud to continue the collaboration between Swatch and MoMA with this new collection of watches inspired by MoMA’s artworks,” commented MoMA Associate Director for Business Development Robin Sayetta.

The museum has three Swatch watches in its permanent collection: the GB100 (1983), GK100 Jelly Fish (1985) and SFK100 Jelly Skin (1998).

"Swatch is very pleased to take a new step in its long history with MoMA, which includes the presence of several Swatch watches in the museum’s permanent collection. It is a real honor to reinterpret masterpieces by Vincent van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, and Piet Mondrian and underscore the new focus on art and artists of the 20th century," concluded Carlo Giordanetti, CEO of Swatch Art Peace Hotel.
