Presented the plan for the new Sannio Museum in Benevento and the start of the restoration site open to the public, dedicated to the Archaeological Collection and works from the Egyptian Sanctuary. Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region, the Province and Municipality of Benevento, the investee company Sannio Europa, and the Province’s Museum Network, the meeting included speeches by Raffaele Del Vecchio, Sole Administrator Sannio Europa; Clemente Mastella, Mayor of Benevento; Nino Lombardi, President of the Province of Benevento; and Rosanna Romano, Director of Cultural Policies and Tourism of the Campania Region.
In 2023, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Museum of Sannio, established on September 4, 1873, by the will of the Provincial Council of Benevento, it was announced that an articulated program aimed at reorganizing the interior spaces and redefining the layout of the cultural center located in the center of the capital city will begin.
Thanks to the collaboration initiated and formalized through an Agreement between the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region, the Municipality of Benevento, the investee company Sannio Europa, the Provincial Museum Network and the Province of Benevento itself, it is now possible to initiate the refounding of the Museum, enhancing its archaeological, artistic and historical heritage. The reunification of the Egyptian Section of the Lost Temple of the goddess Isis in Benevento, currently housed at the Arcos Museum, which is also under provincial jurisdiction, is also part of this path. These interventions will be carried out thanks to a significant allocation of financial resources made available by the Ministry of Culture and the Campania Region.
The redevelopment project, overseen by the General Directorate for Museums with the support of the Campania National Museums Regional Directorate and in collaboration with the Superintendency of Caserta and Benevento, includes, among its main actions, the relocation of the Egyptian Section to its headquarters in Piazza Santa Sofia, within the monumental area adjacent to the Church of Santa Sofia (8th century), which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Sannio Museum will thus take on a new exhibition configuration, enhancing its heritage of artifacts, evidence of the millennial history of the Samnite territory.
